What to Expect

Whittington Church is a place where real life meets the awesome presence of God! And we all know that life gets a little messy at times...sometimes A LOT messy! At Whittington Church we want to meet God right where we are at and allow Him to change us from the inside out. It’s a journey that each of us are in the midst of. If you attend a Sunday Morning Worship Service, you will insert yourself right in the middle of lots of “JOURNEYS” all going on simultaneously in the same place! All different stages of the journey, all different phases of the journey, all happening at the same time! We’re a community of people who don’t have it all together, but are discovering what it means to find life in Jesus, to follow Him fully, to break free from our past, and to walk in victory together.  Here’s what to expect when you arrive: 

You’ll find a warm welcome and a genuine love for people. You will be greeted and assisted as you arrive by a member of our greeting team. Feel free to let us know it’s your first time so we can help you find what you’re looking for. You might even get a hug from a barefoot guy with a really long beard. Don’t worry, that’s Kevin and he’s the most humble person we’ve ever met! You’ll also find a fresh baked loaf of bread waiting for you...our FREE gift to you as a guest! You will not be singled out a “visitor” or coerced into doing anything you aren’t interested in. You will have the freedom to engage in the service as much as you want...or sit back and just soak it all in! As a guest, please do not feel obligated to give financially in any way. 

You’ll find a very laid back, conversational, casual atmosphere. We’re actually a little bit allergic to “formality” so there isn’t much of it around. You’ll also see every possible style of dress from jeans & shorts to business casual...and even the occasional tie!  

If you are looking for a church that meets the needs of people who travel this journey called 'Life' in unique ways, Whittington is the place for you. We have lots of handicapped parking for cars. Parking lots are gravel so vans with lifts or ramps have to find a spot that will work, but it is possible as we have people who do that several times per week. All but one classroom of our building is handicapped accessible, as are the bathrooms. We have accommodations for the hearing impaired if needed. We welcome those in wheelchairs, with walkers, mobility carts, crutches and service animals. We have movable chairs instead of pews, so changing the seating as needed is easy. Don't be afraid to give us a try!

We suggest you arrive 10-15 minutes before the start of the service to get parked, enter the building and find a seat. If you have kids, you’ll want to check them into “KIDZ KINGDOM” (3 Years-3rd Grade) or into the Nursery (Birth-3 Years) before the start if the worship service. Here they’ll learn and have fun in an environment that’s both exciting and safe.

Most services last about 90 minutes. While the order may change from time to time, the components stay consistent. There will be an opportunity for genuine, energetic worship led by our worship team. You will also be presented with God’s Word in a way that is practical and applicable to your life. Typically the service will end with a time of action, response, contemplation and prayer...we call it a “Ministry Time” and you will have the freedom to respond or seek out prayer if that’s something you desire.
