    Bob Pankey

Bob's primary job is being a husband to Candy, which he has done since 1996.  He also enjoys being a dad to Ben, Blane and Cali, a father-in-law to Ashleigh, as well as an owner to Ace the 130-pound chocolate lab.

Bob grew up in Benton and graduated from Benton High School before attending Southern Illinois University in Carbondale where he graduated with two Bachelor's Degrees (Animal Science and Secondary Education). After twenty-four years as an Associate Pastor at Whittington Church, he transitioned to the role of Lead Pastor on January 1, 2026.

Bob is passionate about teaching the Word of God, walking alongside people as grow in Christ and empowering people to step into their God-given calling. He also thinks spreadsheets are one of the most amazing tools ever created, he really loves his whiteboard in his office…but not as much as the coffee station in his office.

During his years as a pastor at Whittington, Bob coached high school football for 10 years, served an eight-year stint in a staff role with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes in the Midwest Region and currently serves on several local boards and committees, including Benton Grade School District 47 school board.  In addition to all of this, he tries to find time to hunt, fish, write, read and play his guitar.

You may not know that before becoming a pastor, Bob managed a huge pig farm with over 1000 sows!  He says raising pigs and pastoring people are similar in a lot of ways!!

    • "Great programs for youth!!! The message always reaches me and HE is always in the house! This church inspires me to be a better person and to reach out to tell a story that will help others grow in the Lord." - bill nipper

    • "Whittington is family. We've been there since Mother's day weekend 2006. Our marriage, our parent journey, our friendships, our spiritual well-being, our mental health, our finances; there's not an area of our lives that hasn't been touched and made better by Whittington Church and the people that attend there. Learning and following the Lord's principles with this group of believers has been such a blessing in our lives. I really don't think I could begin to measure the impact." - leighann tindle

    • "I feel loved before I even walk through the doors. I’ve never been part of another church where I felt so welcomed and so free to truly worship my Lord and Savior." - Pokey Squires
